HEIC is a format used mainly in Apple devices and it can happen that Apple users (both internal and external) share pictures using this format, but when you try to open it you get a message like this from default windows 10 image viewer
The HEVC extension needed it is actually this app that can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store
Once extension is installed the file can be opened using the standard windows 10 image viewer.
