Reaching the site(s)

LabVantage is hosted on internal servers and will require the user to be connected to the Kemin network to access.  This means any one on campus or in a Kemin location will be able to access it normally and anyone working remotely will need to be connected to the VPN.

There are currently two environments for LabVantage, links below.  It is recommended to use the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browsers.  Internet Explorer does work, but is not fully supported by LabVantage and there may be some display and functionality issues.

If you are offsite and try to visit one of the sites linked above then see this message, your VPN connection is not working.

A quick fix for this is typically to restart your computer.  If you continue to see this message, you should contact the Help Desk about VPN issues.

Logging in

When visiting the site(s), you will see a login screen like this.  The username will be your Kemin network user id (not your email address) with your network password you currently use.  For example, "steve.seals@kemin.com" will not work, I will have to use my network id of "sseals" instead.  The red message is okay.

Logging out

If you just close the web browser or tab, your session will remain open and idle, using up a license until it times out.  We do occasionally run into instances where all our licenses are in use.  Most of the time, we find there are some idle sessions still open.  We can help reduce those instances by logging out of the system when we're finished.  You can do that by going into your account menu in the top right and selecting Log Off, or just pressing Ctrl + Q on your keyboard while the LabVantage site is active.

Page is stuck loading

Sometimes, you'll see the blue spinner for much longer than expected.

If this happens to you, it may seem like the site is locked up and the only thing you can do is close the web browser.  Instead of closing the browser, you can refresh the page (Ctrl + R, F5, or use the refresh button on your web browser) and it will reload the page you were navigating from.  If you were to close the web browser instead of refreshing, your session will remain open and idle in the background.  With the design of the system, it locks resources that people are accessing so anything your idle session had open will be locked to that session until it times out or a system admin closes the connection.

Sidebar Navigation

There is a sidebar available to help with navigation across pages.  There are multiple sidebars to choose from, depending on what task you are working on at the time. The sidebar can be shown by clicking on it (1).  It will then expand and you'll be able to see the options and select different sidebar views if you need.  To select a different sidebar, click on the gear icon (2) and select the one you want (4).  To hide the sidebar again, click on the double arrows (3) and it will slide back into the edge of the page.  The sidebar is persistent and will be available with the same options no matter what page you are on.

Scrolling without a mouse

Some users have reported an issue with scrolling on certain pages while using the touchpad/trackpad on their laptop without a mouse connected.  Some of the list pages in LabVantage are virtual pages (Samples, Batches) and the scrollbar is actually for the container that the virtual page is inside of, so using the scrollbar does not work.  In this case, the solution is to make sure the virtual page is active by clicking on the page you're trying to scroll via your touchpad or touch screen, if equipped, then using the two finger scrolling gesture of your touchpad, the arrow keys, or the page up/down keys to navigate.

Help menu

There is a help menu available on the site.  It is provided with the system and goes into a lot of detail for standard, out of the box topics.  You can find it under the ? in the top right area of LabVantage.
